Bassanno Brunch Ride
Our February bunch ride at Bassanno's turned out pretty nice. The food is pretty good and the prices aren't too bad. Around 20 showed for brunch and about ten rode. Bill Berry could not lead the ride that day, so he volunteered me to lead the ride. What do I know about leading the way? Sure it was in my back yard so why not. These guys will follow anybody if you lead them. After absorbing Bill's proposed route, I had a pretty good idea which way to go… As long as I looked like I knew what I was doing, everything would be just fine. The skies were nice. The roads in decent condition with temps in the 40's. We were out of there by noon and the ride commenced after everyone got geared up.
The group was very agreeable to where ever I wanted to go. So I took a right onto 28 and another right onto 275 south... Thought that would get them grumbling. Actually, it worked well to keep the ten or so of us together as we got off on the next exit heading east on 50. We went left on Wolfpen Pt. Pleasant up to 131 and right on Dry Run. About 3/4 of the way towards 50 we turn left on a road that went up the hill and down to the covered bridge road where we turn left onto 50 again. We stopped at Owensville at a gas station and because there were KY folks that were completely lost we headed south on 276 to Williamsburg and stopping at East Fork. From there Tom Collins lead the KY and west side folks down 222 to 52 while I continued on 222 north back towards Milford. 2 1/2 hours of riding without losing a single rider. Everyone got home in plenty of time for the Super bowl. Not too bad…, being my first leader of a group ride. Maybe next time I'll bring the GPS and we can all go get lost.
Brunch Ride at Bassannos Again It was decided at the last meeting that we would do brunch rides in the cold winter months to increase our chances of riding in warmer temps. So it was agreed that we would try Bassanno's again at 11:00 for the March 3rd meal-n-ride event. See you there.

In the winter when riding doesn't come often enough, we can at least talk about it. Some of the hot eGroup topics on the big WWW are;

At the last meeting there was a show of hands of those intending on going to Canada this year. It looked like quite a few hands went up, so I did some digging around at http://www.bmwmoa.org/rally02/index.htm

Is this really winter, or am I having a very good/bad dream? Last week our e-group was peppered with stories of who rode where and when, and who went home "sick" for an afternoon. To those of you who took the opportunity to ride, just don't forget what the residual salt on the roads can do to your favorite ride! It's great at creeping behind body panels and doing its worst. If this is what winter is becoming, what will spring and summer be like?
The latest thing to change in our "way of doing things" is our First Sunday gathering time. Our Sunday breakfast will be pushed back a couple of hours for the next month or so. Our hope is that mid-day temperatures will be more conducive to riding. This change is being initiated for February, so if you show up at 9 next Sunday at Pearl's you might not see too many other members! Brunch is at Bassanno's at 11:00 am
We had a good turnout at Hueston Woods for dinner and the January meeting. We were unable to commandeer our usual spot at the downstairs fireplace and ended up upstairs by the front door. It was difficult for many folks to hear what was going on, so next year, assuming we return to the lodge, we should probably consider renting a meeting room. This brings up an interesting idea from Mary Pierce. She suggested we reschedule our holiday party for January and then look into what options the lodge might offer for a catered affair. Something tells me there will be a lot of discussion on this topic over the next few months.
If you're going to ride this time of year, please be careful!
