Breakfast Ride - August 5, 2001

A dozen bikes rode today from the Waffle House in Wilder on a ride let by Steve Thoerner.  I like the Waffle House in Wilder because in puts you into the twisties right away on Rt 10.  Speaking of Route 10, what a gem of a motorcycle road following the river along the rim and hills that the Ohio River has carved out.  The road conditions were very good and the weather, near perfect.  This is how to spend a Sunday morning.  After an hour or so, everyone’s confidence had grown as we swiftly navigate eastward towards Maysville.  We rode at a spirited pace, yet everyone seemed to ride their own ride.  I did have one little pucker on an off-camber right-hander but maintained and kept the RT in my own lane, but other than that, most all the curves had nice banking and were pretty predictable. We ended up in Augusta, where some of us decided to cross the Ohio bypassing the slab.

We did loose one rider though, the last rider in the pack.  That rider often times has to go fastest to keep up, so if you want a fast ride, ride at the rear.  I suspect this rider musta stopped for a smoke with that group of Harley riders we past. We had a good plan to not turn until everyone arrived, but in practice, it just fell short.  The ideal situation and perhaps an idea for our group rides, would be to have communications between the leader and the cleanup guy, be it something sophisticated like cb's or walkie-talkies or cell phones to hand signals.  That way everyone stays accounted for in the group.
