The maps chosen to be KPUD's have gone through a rigorous process of evaluation and play testing. Several thousand multi-player PUD's were initially reviewed. From those, almost 200 were chosen for play testing and further evaluation. Based on the evaluations of the play testers, 74 maps were chosen to become KPUD's and were put through a final polishing. The resulting KPUD's all have fair starting postions and well thought out resource amounts, and provide a variety of scenarios to satisfy all tastes and skill levels.
In 1997 the KPUD's became the official maps used by the Solid Gold Warcraft League (SGWL). The synergy of the KPUD Team and the SGWL, founded by Zot, gave birth the the Solid Gold Gaming League (SGGL) which became the first online gaming league to offer player ratings with real-time results posted, competition amoung clans, and seasonal player awards. Gaming leagues with these features now have become the standard for all game publisher sponsored leagues.
The KPUD project is no longer active since Warcraft II has long since been replaced by a new generation of online multiplayer games. This KPUD site remains as a historical tribute to those who paved the way.
