| Rector's Ramblings | I am writing this from the Kenyon Conference, intensely aware that August is next week! August is such a mixed month. Some of you are harvesting crops; others are taking summer trips or enjoying the lazy, hazy days of summer from your perch at home. At Holy Trinity still others continue our summer planning for 2007/08 events and experiences, and/or prepare for the new school year with enthusiastic anticipation. Bob and I will be on vacation, visiting family and friends in New Hampshire and Maine, from the eve of August 2nd to the eve of August 11th. The next week, Holy Trinity’s student intern, Mallory Holding, and I will be greeting and meeting students. On Sunday afternoon, August 19th, we invite you to be with us in uptown Oxford for the city’s student-welcome celebration. Holy Trinity will have a table where we hope you will join us for any part of the afternoon (more information will be made known as we learn of the details ourselves). That morning, August 19th, our worship schedule returns to the 8:00 and 10:30 Holy Communion times, 8:00 in the Chapel of St. Bede and 10:30 in the nave. Later, on September 9th, Holy Trinity will host a brunch for Miami students after the 10:30 service. I encourage all of you to come, bringing an offering of food and introducing yourselves to those new in our midst. Please let me know of your interest in helping out with this brunch, too. As you know, many hands make light work! As a child, the excitement in the air as school was about to begin was palpable. Thankfully, it still is. May our new year “openings” be particularly memorable because we are all here, together, rejoicing in the transition from season to season, giving thanks for the sustenance of our communal life. Thanks be to God.

| Developmental Assets | Tools for Helping Youth Grow Up Healthy and Connected The ASAP Center at Cincinnati's Health Foundation is offering a day of workshops August 10 with leading experts on how congregations can help teens resist addiction. This workshop will be useful to clergy and lay leaders of youth, outreach, and Christian formation, and comes highly recommended by Episcopal substance abuse experts Vicki Culler and Ann Barnum. The morning workshop focuses on Asset-Building as a tool for congregations to keep youth engaged, discover their strengths, and build healthy lives free of substance abuse. The afternoon session discusses how to build in evaluation tools to strengthen the program. This inservice is VERY affordable: $40 for the whole day, or $25 per session, plus $5 for lunch. Scholarships are available. Social work and counselors can earn CEUs. For more information go to www.asapcenter.org, call the ASAP Center at 513-458-6640 or toll-free 888-310-4904, or email asap-AT-healthfoundation.org.

| From the Outreach Commission | Holy Trinity Members Share with Others Have you ever noticed the Sharing Shelf being pushed down the center aisle at the presentation of the offering with three cans of baked beans and one box of dry cereal and wondered: Is this the best Holy T can do? Or perhaps you have heard a request for contributions to the Holy T Pantry and wondered what the difference is between the shelf and the pantry? We hope this brief explanation will help:
Food is needed all year long. In fact, summer months are especially difficult because less food is donated and school children are not getting a hot meal at school, so Holy Trinity members are asked to increase their regular food contributions.
Now—to act on our good intentions: let’s each find a pattern which works for us.
Where to put things you bring if not on a Sunday:

| Also from Outreach | Many thanks to everyone who has been using gift cards for Kroger purchases. Holy Trinity received about $500 from Krogers in the first two months of using the cards. We will continue to earn 4% of purchases as long as we use them. Funds earned are earmarked for outreach. If you do not have a card and want to participate, please contact Judy Shaw (523-3493) or Linda Church (523-4356). This is an easy way to increase our ability to help people in need, locally, nationally and internationally. |
| American Heart Association Heart Walk | Geoff and I will be joining our family in Columbus for the American Heart Association Heart Walk and we are looking for sponsors. The Heart Walk raises money for research and education on heart health and stroke. This year the walk takes place on August 18. You can learn more about heart health and stroke prevention or sponsor us online by going to http://centralohheartwalk.kintera.org. To sponsor us click “donate here” and enter Geoff Blackwell as the participant name. We can also accept donations from you in person. Checks should be made out to the American Heart Association. All donations are tax deductible.

| A Note to Older Homeowners | --from Carty Ellis Holy Trinity Homeowners over the age of 65 can now apply for a tax reduction and must do so by October 1, 2007. The form is available on the Internet at for residents of Butler County. Perhaps when you file for and receive this tax exemption, you might reflect on this gift “from Caesar” as you might add ten percent of the savings to your pledge for next year to Holy Trinity. From the Butler County Auditor’s web page: Senior Resident Homeowners Should Apply NOW for Property Tax Relief The Ohio General Assembly has enacted a new, expanded Homestead Exemption that will provide additional property tax relief to qualified senior citizens and permanently and totally disabled Ohioans. Previously, most senior citizens and disabled Ohioans were excluded from the Homestead Exemption because of income tests. The new exemption offers eligible homeowners, regardless of income, the opportunity to shield $25,000 of the market value of their home from property taxation. However, seniors and disabled Ohioans who were previously ineligible must apply with their local county auditor by Oct. 1, 2007 in order to take advantage of the Homestead Exemption, which will save the typical homeowner about $400 per year. New Homestead Exemption forms for Butler County residents are available at this location as well as the Butler County Auditor’s Office, 130 High Street in downtown Hamilton, or Online at www.butlercountyauditor.org. A photo copy of a picture ID for proof of age such as a drivers license, State of Ohio ID card or current or expired passport must be provided. For more information, call 887-3154.
