The Fire at Datex Inc.
On Tuesday evening, July 26th, 2005,
the office building that housed RGS and Datex Inc. was struck by lightning.
The lightning struck during a large
thunderstorm around 8:00 PM, so no one was in the building, and no one
was hurt.
The lightning went through the
computer network and destroyed many of the computers on the network.
The lightning started a fire in
the attic and roof of the building. Portions of the roof caved into the
upstairs floor, which also caught fire.
The fire department arrived and
put out the fire before the entire building was destroyed.
They poured over 2 feet of water
onto the west end of the building, where most of the fire damage occurred.
Datex Inc, where Jake's father,
brother, and uncle work, is located in the lower floor of the building.
There was no fire damage on the
lower floor, but lots of smoke and water damage.
And of course computers don't react
well to water...
