It is rumored that her grandfather founded Princeton. But I have not found a connection between Governor Jonathan Belcher (the founder of Princeton University) and Melissa Edwards. (If anyone knows more, please email me at jrhenry@one.net.)
According to Melissa Edwards' Obituary in 1921:
Melissa Edwards united
early in life with the Methodist church and this remained the standard
of her faith and the beacon light her pathway. She was always willing to
help her neighbors and always in a cheerful manner. She was a kind and
loving wife, mother and grandmother. A keynote of enjoyment in her life
was never doing something for her own pleasure but doing something that
would give pleasure to her loved ones and friends.
