What It Means to Be a Sixth Grader

When students reach the sixth grade, they are expected to be much more in charge of their own learning. Classroom expectations are set so the students have to budget their time, examine priorities, and be aware of natural consequences. Project work becomes more open-ended to allow students to reach or go above and beyond stated criteria. Class discussions take on a level of sophistication.  Academic skills are covered in mini-lessons and students are expected to demonstrate use of the skills in their class work.

A Thought for Consideration ...

He who knows and knows he knows, is wise. Follow him.
He who knows, but knows not that he knows, is asleep. Wake him.
He who knows not, and knows he does not know, is simple. Teach him.
He who knows not, but does not know that he knows not, is dangerous. Avoid him.
