Tombstones Dedicated To
Honor Finneytown's Founders

Neighbors came together Saturday to honor two of Finneytown's original founders.

They met at the old Finneytown Cemetery and dedicated new tombstones for Ebenezer Ward Finney and David Sprong.

Both men fought in the American Revolution in the 1770s and later inherited 10,000 acres of land in the present day Finneytown area.

"They came out here to settle a new land," said Joe Prell, a member of the "Sons of the American Revolution."

"They were originally from New York," said Prell. "They came out here to settle these 10,000 acres and eventually it was sold off and partitioned and they kept this half acre as a burial ground."

Prell is also a descendent of Finney and Sprong.

Prell says he wanted to make sure his ancestors and the history of Finneytown are not forgotten.
