Cornelius Sprong
| He fought in the French and Indian War (Colonial War 1723 to 1783) as a member of the Albany County Militia on the east side of the Hudson River. He and others were taken prisoner and held at Quebec for several years. They were finally sent to Albany, New York in the early 1750's (1753) and exchanged for French prisoners. This is evidently how Cornelius happened to locate in what was then Albany County, and there met Margerita Schans. According to records held by Hazel Sprong Atkins, he was killed on January 14, 1783. The French and Indian War (1754-1763) was officially declared in 1756 by the French and British. |
