Letter from Mary Hall Wagoner dated 1974 to a Mrs. Wilson:

Dear Mrs. Wilson--

Your inquiry in the D.A.R. magazine interested me very much, as my maiden name was Mary Aleece Hall. According to my family history four brothers came to America from England in 1720 and became separated from each other soon after. My ancestors name was Tobias Hall. He had two sons (they were half-brothers) both fighting in the Revolutionary War. Their names were Josiah and Joseph, the latter being my Ancestor.

Joseph married Sarah Allen in 1782 in New Jersey then moved to Fayette County, Pa., and still later to Butler Co. Ohio. There were eight children born to them namely--Stephen, Jane, Sarah, Thomas (who was my Great Grandfather), Kesiah, Josiah, Joseph and Jacob. Thomas was born in 1761 or 1762.

Thomas married Matilda Schrader born about 1795. Thomas Hall moved to Fayette Co. Indiana in 1818. He married Matilda Schrader on Mar. 4, 1813. In 1835 they moved to Rush County, Indiana. Thomas Hall died July 27,
1862 and was buried in the Raleigh Cemetery in the North East corner of Rush Co. Ind. His estate was administered by his son William S. Hall, (my grandfather) and the record is still in the court house at Rushville. Matilda Hall died Jan. 23, 1870.

Our branch of the family were Pioneer settlers in Rush Co. and my Grandfather served as trustee in Washington Township,, Rush Co for several terms. He is given credit for establishing the first Consolidated School in the United States, as he combined five small one room schools into one larger one at Raleigh.

I am the last grand child of William S. Hall, but there are several Great Grand-children. However only one great grand child bears the name of Hall. I have always been very proud of my heritage and feel it an honor to belong to the D.A.R.

Have been through Berea several times and have always admired it, for it's beauty and cleanliness.

This may be of no help to you, but if it is, it will make me very happy to be of help to someone. I do not know the part of the country in which my ancestors fought.

Sincerely Yours,

(Mary Hall Wagoner)
