I'm a newer ICES member and I still don't understand the process for obtaining a scholarship and what it's all about. Recently, we had a DOS in Ohio and they mentioned that we needed to get our scholarship forms in, but didn't explain what it was about and who's eligible, etc. Could someone please give me more information about this process?

Anyone is eligible. You need not even be a member. But it will help if
you are. The first thing to do is get the scholarship application from
the rep. Fill it out and send it back to Caroline - I think. I think
also, the deadline for THIS convention was something like end of Jan.

Our Missouri Day of Sharing Sunday was just great!! I got to meet a couple of the gals on this board - Mendy and Lisa - what a pleasure girls and I hope you get to attend many more. I hope you enjoyed the day and the demoes, etc. Our attendance was down compared to what we normally have of about 50 or so, but it was still a good day and fun. Kudos to the Alternate Rep, Debbie Hennen, for setting it up and getting it all organized. She did a great job! See you in Columbia the 4th Sunday of September. We voted to set up fixed days of sharing so people could plan ahead hoping this will help us to have bigger attendance. In the spring, it will be the 4th Sunday of March. In September, we hope to have a "guest" demonstrator from out-of-state, so start planning now!

LOL - think you read it wrong Dolores!!! We'd all love to come from Missouri to Columbus, but..................Our Missouri DOS is in Columbia, Missouri. Close, but not close enough!!! LOL. Maybe we do need to come to Ohio and see what you have that is attracting everyone - 200 in one day??? Wow! I believe Sunday was our smallest group ever - don't know if it is because it is wedding time or if people have lost interest or what. Maybe we need some new, young blood or new ideas! When is the next one in Ohio? We voted to have fixed dates for our Missouri DOS and will be meeting the 4th Sunday of March and the 4th Sunday of September. That way everyone can plan far ahead and hopefully, this will help. We're open for suggestions!!

have a face with the name. Hopefully I'll be able to come to Columbia
in the fall.

You are right, I thought you meant Columbus in Ohio...didn't know about
the Columbus in Missouri. Then, by coincidence, our DOS in the fall is
the last Sunday of September...which so happens is the same day as
yours.
I think the state reps need to get together and revise the dates we meet
so they don't overlap so bad. This world is getting smaller every day.
You remember...back when we (reps) chose meeting dates, we didn't ever
dream of '4-state' or '5-state' DOS did we?
Now, we have adopted West Virginia as our 'sister' state...just a hop,
skip & a jump away now.
In OH, we only meet twice a year (in Columbus.) The last Sunday of April
and September. This is the way I set it up so many years ago. (I formed
our meetings when I was rep). These dates have turned out to be pretty
good for us. I think this last DOS we had almost 200 people. We never
have less than 100. But we ONLY meet in Columbus, which is central for
us all..lucky us to have a state shaped like a box. Not so perfect for
long states where driving long distance is a prob. I just get up about
4am and drive up for the day.

Not to sound too Wilton, but you may call them and they can tell you
where there is a class close to you. But if you could find a shop owner
that teaches she may have more hints for you. Wilton teachers can only
offer Wilton stuff and there is alot more out there. But Wilton' course
is a GREAT one to take! The course books are worth the class.

Subject: Time Running out for early ICES Convention Registration
If you are going to ICES convention in St. Paul, Minnesota, you are running out of time to get registered for the early registration rate before June 1. For your sake and theirs, too, now is the time to get that sent in and save you some money! If you don't have a roommate and need/want one or more, maybe you can put it on this board and one can be located for you or it can be put in the ICES newsletter - probably needs to be in to Marsha real soon though as this might be the issue coming up that it will go in. If so, it has to be to her by the 25th which is Monday. I'm sure she would take an e-mail request.

As a follow up to Sue's message - check out Wilton on line at www.wilton.com for a complete list of their class sites. I am going to take the Wilton 1 course in June and was told to book early as the classes fill up quickly. The course is 4 sessions, one per week, and is free with the purchase of the kit ($19.99). Good luck.

ALL shops that do classes are NOT listed on Wilton's class list. Most
aren't in fact. I just recently enrolled...I found out I won't have to
give Wilton a list of my students so I enrolled legally as a Wilton
teacher. But most shops just don't know about registering or don't teach
the wilton method at all. As Sue said though, the wilton method IS great
and the book is fantastic. I just throw a lot more into the course that
isn't wilton when I teach. I would check the phone books for a shop. You
may need to drive a ways, but a good course is worth the effort forever!

The demos start on Thursday morning. The schedul is in the May ICES
newsletter. But I think you have to pay the entire fee whether you
attend all days or not. If you only pay the 'public's' fee, you will
only be allowed into the cake room and can't see demos or the vendors.
Its a shame you can't attend the entire convention because there is so
much to see. I bet you won't be able to tear yourself away!
Deadline is June 1 for cheaper fees...I'm registered. See you there! We
are doing our computer chat live on Thursday evening at 9PM (8PM cst).

If you can't stay the whole time, I would pick Saturday and Sunday and stay over Sunday night for the "Sharing" night where you can see lots of demos by floating all over the room. If you have a fax, I could fax you the form. If not, contact Lynn Lair, Demo Chairperson, 308 S. Lincoln, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450-1621. There is no phone # listed for him, but you could call Susan O'Boyle Jacobson, who is one of the Co-Directors and I am sure she could also give you information on the demos. Her # is: 612-572-3911. If I had a scanner, I could scan this for your e-mail, but I haven't gotten that updated yet!! I could also stick it in the mail if you desire to get it that way. Let me know!
