AT LEFT IS A FIRST COMMUNION CAKE I CREATED AS A PROJECT FOR PROCTOR
& GAMBLE IN 1984. IT IS A 12X18 AND A WILTON CROSS-SHAPED CAKE WITH
A SUGAR BIBLE BETWEEN THE TIERS. DECORATIONS ARE ACCENTED WITH ROYAL ICING
DOGWOOD.
*We can no longer get these 'feet'.
Some out-of-the-way small local stores might possibly have them. I have
n suggestions for an alternative. I'm going to leave this cake online in
hopes that someone may be able to think of another way.
Dogwood,
sugar bible and lace pieces are made ahead and dried overnight.

Dogwood 1-1/4 #GDW456
LACE POINTS:
Pipe desired lace pieces onto wax
paper using tip 1 and royal icing.
Lace can also be made in our filigree
candy molds using our chocolate.
DOGWOOD FLOWERS:
Make the dogwood ahead of time. You
COULD make them out of gumpaste if you want them to look super realistic.
Here is the cutter
and pictures.
I used royal icing, a 104 tip and piped
4 petals.
As you pipe, start in the center, move
out and back in a tiny bit, then back to center. (Resembles a heart shaped
petal).
Centers are tiny bubbles of yellow icing
piped with a tip.
Let the flowers dry, then using brown
food coloring diluted with water to the desired shade, brush the part of
each petal where you moved back in and out.
Or we carry these too.
TO ASSEMBLE: Cut a cardboard
4” bigger than the cross cake.
Place the 12x18 cake on (2) 24x17” cardboards.
Ice cakes.
*Glue the ‘feet’ onto the cross-shaped
cardboard where desired.
Mark where pillars need to be by pressing
the cardboard with the glued-on feet onto the 12x18 to make creases for
the pillars.

NOTE: Originally I had stairsteps
with the cake. But the employees at P & G decided that was too much
for them to re-assemble. This picture shows the cake with the stairsteps:
(I think this is another cake entirely- I had done it several times).
