The mailbox can be formed by stacking two loaf cakes and leveling the bottom one.
I don’t recommend the following:
Or you can use 6-in layer cakes. When using 6-in. layers,
square off one side and stand layers on edge. The number of 6-in. layers
used (usually four) determines the length of the mailbox. Slice down both
sides of the layers to form the proper shape of the mailbox. After shaping,
cut a slice off the end of the cake to form the mailbox door. Run a straw
lengthwise through the mailbox to add stability.
"Envelopes"
Since I was working with white and chocolate rolled fondant
icing for another project, I decided to make some envelopes using rolled
fondant. If you need to make envelopes on short notice, ice and decorate
thin pieces of cardboard.
Ice the mailbox in any desired color, I choose lavender. Edges of the mailbox have been trimmed in white with the no. 16 star tube and flowers have been added for color. A sucker stick holds the large red (coating chocolate) heart that creates the mailbox flag.
Rolled Fondant icing, chocolate and sucker sticks (for the red hear sucker) are available at Sugarcraft.
