July 7, 1999 OUR FIRST CHAT OUT ON THE WEB - "LIGALITIES"
Hi everyone. Welcome to the new LIVE CHATS board. I, Dolores McCann, along with Earlene Moore, are your hosts. We will meet here every 1st Tuesday of each month (except August , it'll be the 3rd Tuesday since the 1st Tues. falls during our ICES convention). You are ALL welcome to meet here any day or time of day you ever want to. But on ALL Tuesday nights we will have a LIVE CHAT. Earlene or I may or may not be present. But all of you can meet and enjoy chatting regardless.
If you want to share recipes etc., you may want to plan ahead and type them out on your computer - save as PURE TEXT files. Then you can open it in NOTEPAD then copy/paste it as you send it up. To COPY: highlight just one line of text and press keys Control and C. Set your cursor on the line to write a message and press keys Control V. Press ENTER to send each line. SHIRLEY WAS ABLE TO LOG THIS CHAT THROUGH aol SO WE NEED TO FIND OUT IF IT WILL BE POSSIBLE ON irc. I hope so!
I changed the title of this chat to JUST 'Legalities'
because I felt that PRICING would make it too complicated for our first
chat. We will do PRICING next time...in August, for you. Bring along your
current 20000 Yearbook to that chat! (Yearbook due here by the end of July...order
now!).
LEGALITIES
I don't know of anything more important to be 'up' on
than Legalities. But, until you get REALLY busy I don't think you should
worry about this much at all. Just do your cakes, take classes and learn.
Then maybe someday you WILL need licensees. But for starting out NO, I
don't think so. I have thousands of customers in my retail store and only
about 2-3 are legal....if this tells you anything!
Most of us do cakes from our home and can't be legal ever. I did for years. I know how you feel. Sometimes it is scary. But nothing bad ever happened at all. Finally, when I started doing up to 8 wedding cakes per week at home, I got licensed by our Ohio Department of Agriculture ($10.00 per year). They inspect you once a year and requirements are very lax. DO NOT expect it to be this way in highly metropolitan areas, such as on the East coast of the USA. The authorities are naturally more stringent where they must control the flow of highly populated areas.
Requirements vary. But here I need the Dept. of Ag. License and the city health dept. license (I'm within city limits and wasn't at home). I could not have been licensed by Hamilton City to do cakes from my home if I'd lived in the city then. I wouldn't have even tried.
In some areas they also require some sort of business license. I have no idea how this works.
To find out the requirements, call your city or county health departments and ask for a copy of the requirements.
ZONING: Zoning is usually also a factor. Even in the county.
If you are not zoned business, you can be shut down. Businesses are usually
only located in zoned-business areas. You may be able to get a variance
but this depends on your neighbors agreeing within so many feet of your
property.
Next is our log, thanks to ShirleyFL who managed to
log it for us.
Subj: July 6 Cake Chat

DOLORES7: McCann, along with Earlene Moore,

I have to keep scrolling back down.
DOLORES7: have a LIVE CHAT. Earlene or I
may or may not be present. But all of you can meet and enjoy chatting regardless.
GA...a glitch of this chat room...no fix for it,
sorry
Tee-L: Hi, is this working
right, the new messages are appearing at the
bottom so I have to scroll down to see them.Shouldn't
they appear at the top
of the page?
DOLORES7: If you want to share recipes etc.,
you may want to plan ahead
NoiW: This is my first
time in the chat room so I'll sit here and observe :)
NitaB: I have the same
problem with the screen
DOLORES7: and type them out on your computer
- save as PURE TEXT files.
DOLORES7: no...they need to appear at the
bottom...you can open your screen wider...place your cursor on an edge
and move it bigger
Then you can open it in NOTEPAD then copy/paste it as
you send it up. To COPY: highlight just one line of text
and press keys
DOLORES7: Okay Noi...just glad to have you
DOLORES7: Mine scrolls off the top of the
screen...just like on aol
cakelady29: I think I need
a lesson in computers.
LesaG: widening the screen
helps - not so much going on.
Sugarrushs: My CP is on
full screen and I am still having to scroll down. ??
DOLORES7: Control and C. Set your cursor
on the line to write a message and press keys Control V. Press ENTER to
send each line.
this thing IS cltsy...better days ahead I hope...but
for now this is all we can get
DOLORES7: I changed the title of this chat
to JUST 'Legalities' because I felt that PRICING would make it too
complicated for our
first chat. We will do PRICING next time...in August,
for you.
romula: Does anyone remember
the Lady Windemere crystal cake stand? It used to be available from Maid
of Scandinavia.
Bethany77: I opened a word
document so I can copy/paste what I want to save as we go along.
DOLORES7: Bring along your current 20000
Yearbook to that chat! (Yearbook due here by the end of July...order
now!).
DOLORES7: Bethany...is that a pure text file?
swtcakes: Is anyone having
trouble with message staying in screen after hitting say it?
LesaG: Beth...good idea!
treathouse: hey is the
new Wilton book out...is that what you are talking about?
DOLORES7: I'm using Notepad. I have both
screens on
kspn: is anyone going to
the show in KC?
DOLORES7: LEGALITIES
cakelady29: I am going
to ICES.
DOLORES7: I don't know of anything more important
to be 'up' on than
Sugarrushs: I have a legalities
questions?
Bethany77: I'm in Microsoft
word. It's what I always use to save info I
find on the message board.
DOLORES7: No- new yearbook will be out at
end of July...treat
DOLORES7: go Sugar
swtcakes: Hope to make
the convention next year
Tee-L: I just went to another
chat by beseen and looksmart and the
messages appear at the top on that one.
DOLORES7: Legalities. But, until you get
REALLY busy I don't think you should worry about this much at all. Just
do your cakes, take
LesaG: true story! I have
dreams that my fun is going to turn into a nighmare someday!
DOLORES7: I fixed the messages to appear at
the bottom...blame me...books flying LOL classes and learn. Then
maybe someday you WILL need licensees.
DOLORES7: Poor Lisa...too much fun I suppose
DOLORES7: But for starting out NO, I don't
think so. I have thousands of
LesaG: When do you need
a license? Is there a general rule? State by State?
swtcakes: Are we able to
order yearbooks now??
DOLORES7: customers in my retail store and
only about 2-3 are legal....if this tells you anything!
ekristek: So it is legal
to sell cakes as long as you don't advertise, correct?
DOLORES7: Swt...I could fix it so you could
do that
DOLORES7: Lisa...explaining more...
DOLORES7: I doubt it is ilegal just
to say you sell cakes..
LesaG: This is going to
get deep, isn't it! So much for sleep tonight.
What happens if I advertise and what exactly constitutes
advertisement?
HELP!!!!!! LOL
DOLORES7: Most of us do cakes from our home
and can't be legal ever. I
swtcakes: I'm interested
Dolores.
DOLORES7: id for years. I know how you feel.
Sometimes it is scary. But nothing bad ever happened at all. Finally, when
I started can't advertise...the phone company checks the newspapers
and will make you get a bus. phone if you place ads...newspapers and will
make
you get a bus. phone if you place ads...
ekristek: I would like
to make business cards, but am afraid of getting caught.
tp4jb: I sell items at
craft shows. I got a home license just in case anyone asked
treathouse: so could you
put a sign in your yard saying that you do
cakes and still not be legal?
DOLORES7: My daughter Sue use to work at
the ph. Company,,,they checked the paper...but maybe not everywhere
at craft shows...if you sell food products DO get a one-day health license...they
come to the shows
DOLORES7: right Treat...12x12 is all here
for a sign
DOLORES7: my screen went BLACK for a few
moments!
romula: Simply put...what
IS illegal?
1 tp4jb: the dept. of agriculture
gave me a home bakery license that i just pay 10 bucks a year for.
DOLORES7: ...more
DOLORES7: doing up to 8 wedding cakes per
week at home, I got licensed by our Ohio Department of Agriculture
($10.00 per year). They
inspect you once a year and requirements are very lax.
DO NOT expect it to be this way in highly metropolitan areas, such
as on the East coast of the USA. The authorities are naturally more
stringent where they must control the flow of highly populated areas.
Requirements vary. But here I need the Dept. of Ag.
License and the city health dept. license (I'm within
city limits and wasn't at home). I could not have been licensed by Hamilton
City to do cakes from my home if I'd lived in the city then. I wouldn't
have even tried.
b.keith: What is legal
depends on where you are. Around here (Fairfax County VA), it means a business
license and sales tax registration at a minimum.
tp4jb: i'm in ohio and
they only checked the first time. didn't even
check when I changed addresses.
romula: how do you get
a license? I live in St. Louis,Mo.
PamG44: Heavens to Betsy
- I made it!!!!
treathouse: I cannot get
a license right now because we have a cat...but we will be moving to a
busy street
LesaG: I have the sales
tax permit - will look into a health license!
treathouse: and would like
to be able to let people know I bake just by the sign
DOLORES7: tp...are you in Cincinnati area?
1tp4jb: yep, milford
DOLORES7: Lesa...two entirely different entities...one
doesn't know the other LOL
LesaG: Noi - do you know
about Texas? If so, could you e-mail me the particulars sometime. SwtDrmCake@aol.com
DOLORES7: pretty strict for you maybe tp...?
b.keith: To get a license,
I called the state department of commerce.
They sent me a packet to tell me where to go to get the
various pieces I needed.
treathouse: I am in Ohio
too...Lebanon
DOLORES7: romula...I'm saying NOT to do that
at all. Sit tight and enjoy
DOLORES7: wouldn't have even tried.
tp4jb: when they
checked my apt the first time, it didn't matter if i had pets
DOLORES7: treat...you and tp are my neighbors!!!!
DOLORES7: I have no idea how this works.
tp4jb: they said as long
as they didn't get on tables while they were there and there were no dirty
dishes in the sink that was about it.
ColleenF: LesaG Texas is
strict, have to have separate kitchen
JaniceO: I'm back, got
frozen up
DOLORES7: tp...you'd better hold onto that
license TIGHT
GA1020: Many times the
problem in getting a license is the zoning, your neighbors don't want a
business next door.
NoiW: Lesa, you have to
talk to Earlene. I don't know anything about business. I do cakes for fun.
Sorry!
tp4jb: has it gotten more
difficult?
treathouse: really, Tp?
I had to call the Agriculture Dept in Columbus and they said no pets for
me
LesaG: Cakes, who bakes
cakes? Not ME!!! ROFL
DOLORES7: Earlene should be here...bet she
is on slow time
ColleenF: Me either lol!
treathouse: and once I
got rid of the cat, then they would inspect. after they give me a license
romula: My daughter is
curious. Is there a cap on the earnings before you have to deal with the
IRS?
DOLORES7: To find out the requirements, call
your city or county health
tp4jb: the person in my
area was great. very lax.
b.keith: In Virginia, dogs
in the kitchen are a no-no, but evidently
cats are ok -- comes from the days when they were kept
around to keep the mice population under control.
treathouse: then I would
need to call the local county office
LesaG: Thanks Noi!
DOLORES7: no...we are really giving this
thing a workout is probably why...
kspn: i bake for fun and
for family, I want to bake for $$
DOLORES7: not many chats have this many people
tp4jb: the local county
was who i spoke with. i think the closer to home the more realistic they
are.
DOLORES7: ZONING:
Zoning is usually also a factor. Even in the county. If you are not
zoned business, you can be shut down.
Businesses are usually only located in zoned-business
areas.
LesaG: I'm not an accountant
or tax lawyer, rom....but hang onto all your receipts! They help off-set
income at the end of the year.
DOLORES7: You may be able to get a variance
but this depends on your neighbors agreeing within so many feet of your
property.
LesaG: I'm not an accountant
or tax lawyer, rom....but hang onto all your receipts! They help off-set
income at the end of the year.
DOLORES7: You may be able to get a variance
but this depends on your neighbors agreeing within so many feet of your
property. ,,,and just don't worry about getting legal. Many times you can't
do that at all anyway. It was very easy for me to get legal since I have
a store front. But when you do anything at home,.. it can be SO difficult
and such variations of the laws
DebraW: Zoning was my big
problem. Had to go before the county comissioners and get a variance. Nerve-racking
treathouse: see my local
county told me I had to speak with the people in Columbus first..weird
how counties are so different in the same state
b.keith: Around here, as
long as you don't have more than 8 visitors a day, and no more than 4 at
a time, zoning doesn't care.
cakelady29: In Virginia,
I had to move 20 miles from where I lived to be able to be a legal home
business in the same state.
tp4jb: i don't really have
many pickups. more deliveries and shows.
b.keith: Hi Marida.
LesaG: So Dolores -what
you are saying is bake cakes - worry about the other stuff when it comes
up?
JaniceO: any way to know
how many of us are in here?
cakelady29: Hi, Keith.
dora_a: Hi, all. I don't
have any legal questions just now, but wanted to be part of this chat.
I'll just listen and maybe learn something for
future reference.
romula: Delores, could
you comment on things that are illegal?
LesaG: I don't want to
do anything wrong, but decorating isn't my ONLY full-time job! LOL
DOLORES7: YES Lisa...that is what I'm saying
tp4jb: is it smart to include
ingredient labels on your products?
b.keith: You probably don't
need ingredient labels unless you're packaging it for resale.
DOLORES7: romula has asked an ipportant question
and I'd better start putting up Earlene's...
romula: LesaG, what do
you mean?
DebraW: tp, where I'm from
(NC) dept of ag requires that you have ingredient labels if it is individually
packaged items
DOLORES7: tp...this is required and the health
dept comes in regularly to see that we have labels.
LesaG: thanks tp...I was
going to ask too! I have a request from a client to put a notice on the
table with the wedding cake.
b.keith: You may, however,
want to include an allergy warning (nuts, chocolate, dairy, etc.) for your
customers' protection.
ColleenF: I really cant
be legal, have decided to just screen my customers really well
LesaG: she's having 300
and doesn't want anyone keeling over on her happy day! Having five cakes
all different flavors.
DOLORES7: The rest is from Earlene...she
sent us earlier I guess the thing that bothers most of us most often is
the legalities of the Copyrights law. Our customers who want cute birthday
cakes for their kids want the same designs as is on the napkins or party
favors or etc. That is where we can get in trouble. All of those designs
are copyrighted and protected by law. We cannot legally use those designs
on our cakes to sell to our customers. You can purchase any
of the pre-made items such as images or plastic pieces and etc and add
those to a cake for the customer. Because that manufacturer has paid a
premium fee to be able to sell those products we do
have the accessibility to the plastics. Otherwise we
would be totally up a creek. So just count your blessings that we do have
those plastic figures we can
treathouse: ok, so
what if you freehand a design..say scoobie doo, on the cake and sell?
ladlemeister: hi room-
only now beginning to miss paper bags on which to work on!!
LesaG: Rom...about receipts?
DOLORES7: use for your customers cakes.
Even the Wilton shaped pans are made with a customer in mind who simply
wants to do cakes for her children. We are not supposed to sell even those
designs. I know that doesn¹t sound reasonable or make much sense
to us who have customers begging us to do those starred in cakes.
But that is what we use for your customers cakes.
PjW10: Hi Ladle..LOL
Bethany77: The local bakery
has made licensed figures on cakes for years. Scooby doo, Lamb chop, you
name it.
tp4jb: even freehand drawings
can't be done.
DOLORES7: treat...not ever! If they hold
it up and identify it you are had!
216.192.168.89: luvcakes:
I'm from Illinois and the FDA said theres
no way I can get approved from home
DOLORES7: Even the Wilton shaped pans are
made with a customer in mind who simply wants to do cakes for her children.
We are not supposed to sell even
those
tp4jb: i managed a cookies
by design and they would check the drawings going out on the cookies.
ladlemeister: hi
PJW- I dont think people really know how to respect copyright protections
LesaG: Our grocery stores,
I guess, have the license to sell them? I didn't realize you weren't supposed
to sell those cakes! Geez.
PjW10: I agree
---------CRASH NUMBER ONE--------
b.keith: Are we back?
tp4jb: i am
Tee-L: Where did it all
go?
sweetretta: what happened???
b.keith: Not sure who's
still here, but before we got cut off, I was saying that the basis of copyright
law in regards to what we do is pretty
simple.
PjW10: did we all get bumped?
ShirleyFL: oh good---i
thought it was just me.
b.keith: If you're using
someone else's artistic or intellectual property for monetary gain without
their permission, you're breaking the law.
AngelaJill: Hi all, took
me a long time to get in, did something happen?
b.keith: I imagine the
chat server had a bit of a meltdown or power hit.
tp4jb: the server overloaded.
i think that will happen here alot.
debyh: hello
DOLORES7: Hi all...I crashed am using aol
to get in
CarolAnnTx: what a mess.
Tee-L: But aren't we breaking
the law if we are not legal too?
sweetretta: I guess we'll
work out the bugs as time goes on.
ladlemeister: hi again
room!!
AngelaJill: Hi dolores!
DOLORES7: so we ALL crashed????
ladlemeister: hi Dolores
DOLORES7: I got in through aol
PjW10: Yep, one fail swoop
and boom!
b.keith: Tee-l:
yep -- pretty much. But the county/state authorities probably aren't as
zealous about pursuing as Disney is. ;)
CarolAnnTx: We sure did
crash.
treathouse: man I got booted
and couldnt sign back on..did I miss alot??
DOLORES7: Earlene is coming in...she must
have been lost on an old board...
PjW10: OOH! Keith! new
color please!
b.keith: yeah -- sorry.
it's pretty ugly. how's this one?
DOLORES7: I'll forget about putting up the
legal stuff...I have that and will post it in the aol chat area
cakelady29: What happened?
I got cut off and then could not get back on.
PjW10: So I hear light
pink ribbons are the thing to wear at convention
DOLORES7: guess we all got bleeped
PjW10: Much better Keith,
thanks!
EarleneMor: Well now this
room looks different.
b.keith: Why light pink
ribons?
DOLORES7: I agree Pj...we all liked that
idea
ShirleyFL: for pink icing
and roses?
PjW10: To Identify ourselves
as chat room attendees
Bethany77: Oh, good, everyone's
still here. YEA!
b.keith: OK -- I'll see
what I can come up with.
EarleneMor: Several of
us ended up in another room somehow
PjW10: I like it too, and
less work for me..LOL
AngelaJill: It will be
fun to put faces with the names!
b.keith: Of course, it'll
be pretty tough to wear a ribbon in my hair....
EarleneMor: We were all
wondering where you guys were
DOLORES7: Earlene...you had an old bookmark
I think
LesaG: Got the boot too!
WhatdidImiss? LOL
DOLORES7: BKieth doesn't want a pink ribbon
I think
EarleneMor: You will have
to wear a pink bow tie Keith
DOLORES7: Lesa...so did most of us...we crashed
CarolAnnTx: We were here
once and got boot and we're back.
PjW10: Keith? should I
bring my hot glue gun? LOL
EarleneMor: Maybe so -
it seems there were several of us with the same problem
b.keith: Maybe I'll wear
a pink thong.
DOLORES7: yeah...a bow tie...cute
Kidzcakez: I've been in
the wrong room all night? What a mess.
JaniceO: I made it! (gooo8)
Kidzcakez: I've been in
the wrong room all night? What a mess.
DOLORES7: did anyone NOT get booted?
EarleneMor: I just went
in this afternoon to make sure I had the room bookmarked - Who knows
PjW10: THONG!
DOLORES7: some of you had an old bookmark
Kid...
MindyMc: this is weird,
I was in the wrong room
cakelady29: I went back
to Dolores' message board and got on and could not get back in the chat
room!
carole321: Is this where
we were supposed to be? Were we in the wrong room?
DOLORES7: Sat. night BKieth?
b.keith: I thkn everyone
got booted. Probably a server problem.
EarleneMor: Well at least
we finally made it into the right room.
PjW10: Hi Goooo
DOLORES7: Carol...you are in the right place
LesaG: I went to the message
boards and waited! Figured we'd get back in sometime.
CarolAnnTx: We all could
wear one of those tall funny hats.
AngelaJill: I had to refresh
the message board before ot would let me in
b.keith: Sat nite? I thought
that's when we were supposed to wear our usual New Year's apparel. My PJ's
are pretty flimsy....
DOLORES7: I knew this would not go well LOL,,,too
many cakes
EarleneMor: Right Carole
- funny night. By the way Dolores the other room got all my info.
kakeladi: my goodness,
i wondered why there were so few of us before
EarleneMor: We couldn't
figure out where the rest of you were.
DOLORES7: LOL...well bow ties for dressup
MindyMc: are you talking
about what to wear at the convention so we can find each other
DOLORES7: I could wear the hat I wear fishing????
LesaG: I wanna go!!! whine
whine
DOLORES7: How did you all know to come here...from
Earlene?
PjW10: Mindy..Pink Thongs
AngelaJill: Earlene, the
tie dyed wedding cake you did, was it airbrush?
DOLORES7: Mindy...yes...started out to be
a yellow ribbon but truned pink
b.keith: Anyway -- back
to legalities. We were talking about copyrights.
The simple message is don't replicate copyrighted designs.
EarleneMor: Janice and
I were IM'ing and I told her and she told the rest of the room
JaniceO: Hi there PjW10--I
just saw your greeting. :^)
MindyMc: underwear, or
shoes? LOL
carole321: Someone said
'go to delores' site' so I guess we did.
LesaG: But the plastics
are okay Dolores?
EarleneMor: ANgelaJill
yest that cake was airbrushed. Isn't that one a hoot
PjW10: we have to disqualify
copyrighted pcs in cake shows also
DOLORES7: right about copyrights...don't
even try it...it is not worth the worry
tp4jb: you need to be careful
with the edible images you print too. photographers can be nasty about
using their photos
PjW10: Mondy...whatever
is most comfortable..LOL
DOLORES7: Yes...plastics or thos Edible Images
are fine.
AngelaJill: Earlene, I
thought it was great, unusual but beautiful!
MindyMc: shoes for me then.
hahaha
b.keith: Dolores7 -- right.
Because they're a one-use type item. You're paying for the right to use
it once by buying it.
DOLORES7: I have found that photogs will
easily give permission IF its edible...I've had MANY oks
EarleneMor: That one would
not work in my head. She ordered the cake to
be airbrushed with red, orange, yellow, green, blue and
purple
PjW10: Bringing camera
for Keiths thong!
EarleneMor: d then she
brought me those silk daisies in pinks, orchids and yellows.
JaniceO: Zoom lens tooo
cakelady29: Forget it Keith!!
DOLORES7: Earlene...we'll bring our fancy
cameras for that! LOL
EarleneMor: I had to make
myself do that cake and then when it was done I liked it.
PjW10: This cake I gotta
see!
b.keith: Just don't put
the image on a cake -- someone is bound to own the copyright. ;)
EarleneMor: Right Dee
AngelaJill: You pulled
it off Earlene, it was an original!!
DOLORES7: Pj...its on her web site now
LesaG: Ear...is it on your
site?
JaniceO: Earlene it was
a magnificent accomplishment.
DOLORES7: I'm going to fix this screen so
the new stuff posts at the top! On aol it doesn't work right! I see what
Shirley meant while ago
PjW10: My Aol crashed last
week, still regrouping it
AngelaJill: Go see that
cake you all, it's great!!
Kampycakes: hello
EarleneMor: It sure is
along with the castle grooms cake
LesaG: Oh no....I'm just
getting the hang of it and I took a couple of dramamine to cover the sea
sickness. ROFL
b.keith: Earlene -- that
was a gorgeous cake! I just got a contract to do the Mad Hatter cake --
lopsided tiers, odd colors, etc. Gonna be fun!
EarleneMor: Keith e-mail
me and I will give you some tips on that one.
LesaG: You should have
seen the sick green type I was using before you signed on - it fit!
kakeladi: mindy; mine eleminates
itself after posting
b.keith: The board is working
fine for me -- messages come in at the bottom of the screen, and I don't
need to scroll at all.
JaniceO: Mine clears once
I hit Say It
Kampycakes: Hi Mindy! Are
you all ready to go to KC?
PjW10: I thought it was
this wine I'm drinking....
EarleneMor: Mine is now
Mindy
DOLORES7: I can't fix it right now...will
tomorrow! Never tried it on aol before
b.keith: Earlene -- ok
-- will do. Thanks!
JaniceO: Mine keeps jumpint
to the top and I have to keep scrolling to the bottom or hitting Refresh
NitaB: I switched to Netscape
and the screen doesn't scroll up.
EarleneMor: I keep trying
to read what I missed. Not EASY in this room
DOLORES7: yeah...BKieth but you aren't on
aol are you?
LesaG: Can we talk about
the notices for allergies, etc., again. Like I said, the bride wants a
card on the table since there will be so many
different flavors. Has anybody ever seen

MindyMc: yes, I'm ready,
I can't wait.
LesaG: this?
JaniceO: who knows how
to turn off bllinking banners?
Kampycakes: Was trying to
put together a Xena costume but I think I've chickened out.
b.keith: No, this account
is on mindapring.
AngelaJill: Is everyone
dressing in costume for the banquet on Sat?
DOLORES7: I just got another error messgae
LOL
MindyMc: to turn off the
adds, go to the view button at the top. hit internet options, hit advanced,
scroll down to where it says show pictures
and click on it -&- then ok
DOLORES7: mine is local but I go into aol
through my ISP
PjW10: COSTUME!
carole321: I'm going in
costume. Although once i went as my friend merlene.
JaniceO: ShirleyFL--do
I know you by another screen name? (gooo8)
DOLORES7: Mindy...not on aol can you?
Kampycakes: Maybe little
calligraphy signs that tell the flavors??? I've never heard of doing that.
MindyMc: I still have to
backspace to get rid of what I typed before
Kampycakes: Maybe little
calligraphy signs that tell the flavors??? I've never heard of doing that.
MindyMc: I still have to
backspace to get rid of what I typed before
EarleneMor: Just wear something
nice and don't worry about it. People will be in everything from jeans
to dressed to the nth
b.keith: For allergies:
The big ones are nuts, dairy, chocolate. Rarer are wheat (gluten), and
some others. Make sure to list those, and
you'll probably have most folks covered.
LesaG: Kampy...think that
would be good enough? Doing almond, white chocolate fantasy, red velvet,
italian creme and Reeces for groom?
AngelaJill: I guess I misunderstood,
I thought it said costume! Oops !
PjW10: phew...was thinking
I had to do one more thing!
kakeladi: about signs for
flavors. if bride wants then do:) who cares if it's been done before.
DOLORES7: right on allergies...I know someone
who put coconut on to keep the plate from sticking and...
carole321: Thanks, Dee.
That worked for me.
EarleneMor: I'm on AOL
now and it certainly looks different in this room
LesaG: I'd have to do every
allergy known to man if I put an actual allergy notice on it. It'd cover
the whole table! ROFL
DOLORES7: it sent 3 people to the hospital...they
were allergic...be careful of ingredients they don't know about
Kampycakes: mine doesn't
have internet options under view. :-(
PjW10: ~~~~ deathly allergic
to coconut
carole321: That was supposed
to say, I'm NOT going in costume!
LesaG: kakeladi....so true!
After all, I'm doing five different cake flavors for her - couldn't be
any more weird with little signs! LOL
Bethany77: look under tools
for internet options
DOLORES7: she put coconut on so the plate
won't stick...could have used plain old plastic wrap
Kampycakes: yes, I think
the signs would be plenty - who knows what allergies there are, except
maybe doctors?
MindyMc: does it have anything
similar Marie, You might have a different version of internet explorer
EarleneMor: I keep taking
the screen to the bottom and then it jumps back up and I have to take it
to the bottom again
kakeladi: i say just tell
what flavor -&- maybe say if it has nuts or coconuts -&- let people
decide if they can eat it.
carole321: Mine just said
'options'
LesaG: Thought she'd balk
at my $25 per cake base price and then $1.25/slice - but no....five flavors
she wants...five flavors she gets. The
customer is ALWAYS right, huh? LOL
PjW10: If the signs are
pretty and with the decor, what would it hurt!
b.keith: Gonna run folks
-- sandman calls. See ya!
I left this almost verbatum to the way the chat went.
It was SO interesting and so many great questions were brought up. This
is fasr better than any AOL chat...even if we crashed. Hope we have better
luck this next ime on the 17th! If you go into this chat by some other
method than through my web site, please go to http://w3.one.net/~proicer/index.html
and download the software needed for the chat on the 17th. It requores
some setup but I've given you a 'cheat cheet' which should make it easier
for you.
