Hey Wanks!

It seems like every time I hash I always have some whining hashers asking me when I am going to hold the next orienteering event. Well, here’s your chance. The Miami Valley Orienteering Club (MVOC) is holding their anal Germantown Park Orienteering event on Sunday, October 24th, registration and starts between Noon and 2 pm (all courses close at 4 pm).

Many of you in the past have participated in the “Revenge of the Vampire Hares” hash and enjoyed it enough to come out to the regular MVOC events. For you virgin orienteers, have no worry. This is my 10th year of running this event and I never lost an orienteer yet. Don’t know how to orienteer? Club members and I will be happy to give you personal help on the fine art of orienteering with a map a compass.

I designed six different orienteering courses ranging from beginners to advance with distances of 2-7 K. You can go out on the course by yourself or in groups. You can either run or hike. This is walker and family friendly!

The cost is $6 for the first map and $2 for each additional map purchased for the group. Bring a whistle and a compass if you have one. If you don’t, the club has extra compasses to lend. Wear appropriate shig apparel and bring extra dry clothes and shoes. Beer is not allowed at the event, but if you stick around long enough we can grab a few cold one’s at a local bar.

This is the clubs biggest event of the year! The park is very scenic during the fall season and at least a couple hundred of people will be there. I hope to see you there! - Dah Gimp

• Make a RIGHT (west) and drive through the town of Miamisburg
• Stay on SR 725 till you reach State Route 4 (traffic light) and make a LEFT (south)
• Drive for about 1.7 miles and make a right again on SR 725 (traffic light)
• Drive through the small city Germantown and continue west on SR 725 until you reach Boomer Shine Road (4 miles, you’ll see signs for Germantown Metro Park and orange and white orienteering signs).
• Take a RIGHT (north) onto Boomer Shine Rd and follow the orange and white orienteering signs to the parking lot.
• Sign in at registration to get your map (and compass) and find me at the start!
