My grandmother was married to a Gorby-her name was Nancy Ann Rossiter-she had chidren named frank and Bess.I think they were located in Noble co. Ohio.She later married Homer C.Spriggs- any help would be appericated

Looking for information on the following people: Clifford Gorby, he was a lawyer in Columbiana, OH in the 1930's-1940's? He attended the Gorby reunions in W.VA. and drove a "big black" LaSalle. Three other people from the "Gorbytown" area in Columbiana County, OH: Willie Gorby from early 1900's and Ross Gorby (he owned a strawberry farm), and Eli Gorby, He lived on Bye Road (near Negley, OH) in the early 1900's. He died after stepping on a nail.

I realize these are "shots in the dark" but if you have any information, let me know!

I am trying to find a Daniel Anderson born in W. Va. and went to Iowa, where he married Elsie Jane Wade who was widowed and had two daughters one of which is my gr-grandmother, Sarah (Anderson) Taylor. They left Iowa and moved to Kansas, then after Elsie Jane's death he took the two little girls and came back to W. Va. (possibly around Hundred or Littleton. I believe his mother's maiden name was possibly Church. I know there are alot of these names in this area. I have that he was born in 1923, but according to the marriage license of which I have a copy, they were married in 1974, which means he was not born in 1923. I have been trying to find a "fit" here for my maternal gg-grandmother Sarah A. Gorby, but have not succeeded. She was born abt. 1845 in PA. She married Francis "Frank" Marion Fields in Koszta, Iowa Co., IA 18 Mar. 1867/68. Frank was born in Washington Co., PA. Frank (26), Sarah (23)and my g-grandmother Almira (01) were living in Dixon Co., NE during the 1870 Federal Census. During the 1880 census, Frank (34), Sarah (31) Myrah L. (12), Oriole (8), Addie (3), and Nellie (1) were living in Koszta, Honey Creek Township, Iowa Co., IA. I found that a David, Emaline, and Samuel Gorby were living in Honey Creek Township, Iowa Co., IA during the 1870 census. My grandmother is Helen Gorby, married to Howard Gorby. Howard died when my father was 6, so I have never seen a picture of him and my father (now 52 years old) vaguely remembers him. One thing I should ad... I am not of Gorby lineage, although I wish I was. My grandmother (Helen) married a man last-named Smith and had all four children with him. They divorced when my father was an infant, and she married Howard a few years later. All of the children took his name - Gorby. As I understand it, Howard was a very good and kind man... tall and bald. I guess I'd like to know if anyone out there knows of a Howard Gorby that would have lived in Indiana and marrid Helen Smith in the mid to late 1950's.

I've spent my whole life with this unique name... Gorby. And while I am not of Gorby lineage, my signature reads Gorby proudly... Smith would be boring. When people ask me, "What kind of name is Gorby?" I say I don't really know. I myself wonder where the Gorby name came from.

She was the daughter of Wava Opal Arnett Gorby (died late 1960s) and William Jefferson Gorby (died a few years later) of West Virgina. I believe there was Blackfoot in the lineage somewhere. Searching for any info on a GGgrandmother, Elizabeth S.Pierce. Born abt 1863 in Delaware. Elizabeth married Henry W. Read of Phila, PA on May 23, 1883. They had at least one daughter, Caroline Alexandria Read born Jan9,1888. Elizabeth may have been Baptist because her husband was Luthern and they were maried in a Baptist church in Phila. I know nothing about Elizabeth's Parents and nothing else about Elizabeth except that her husband Henry became a Phila Policeman and commited suicide in June 1896. I am searching for information on Mary Gorby (born 1805 - 1810). She came from Westmeath, Ireland circa 1836 with husband Charles Price to Renfrew Co, Ontario, Canada. Looking for any information on the descendants of William Gorby and Mary Craig. William was born in Columbiana Co, OH, February 26, 1827. He married Mary Craig February 20, 1851. Mary was born in Dalogoner, Dumfries, Dumfrieshire, Scotland November 22, 1822. They were last known to reside in Meigs Co, OH in 1860.

I am researching with my father’s family in WV. His mother was Rachel Alice Gorby. From census information I know she was born in April 1881 in WV. In the 1900 census she was already married to my grandfather, Howard H. Cupp.

She had a brother named Albert but I have not found him in 1880. 1900, 1910, or 1920 WV censuses, I am now beginning to search OH censuses. I have been told by family members that he was a constable in Tyler Co. and that he was around when my father was growing up in Harrison Co. WV.

Rachel died in the last half of 1917. Some of the children then lived with extended family or left home earlier than usual. The children of Rachel and Howard Cupp did not stay in touch and now all those that we know of are dead. I started into genealogy to find Rachel and Albert’s parents and have not been successful yet.

Rachel and Howard's children were: 1. Minnie Mae (b.1900) 2. Elma Pearl (b.1902) 3. Grace (b.c1904) 4. Burley Lee (b.1906) 5. Earl Chester (b.1908) 6. Mabel (b.1910) 7. Delbert William (b.1912) 8. Opal Marie (b.1915) 9. Cecil Albert (b.1917).

I am the son of Ollive Gorby who married Garth Graham from Wheeling, WV. My mothers father was James Paul Gorby, one of 11 children. That Gorby family has ties to St. Louis, MO and Paonia, CO.
