Race Report for 8/22/04:
Race 1 & 2 Winds 0 - 7 mph (7 for a few seconds the whole afternoon, average around 3). S-SW Approx.
Race 1 - Pete nailed a perfect port tack, port/pin-end start. Several other boats had good starts too including Dave and Jenifer that I was able to see. The winds were on and off during the first beat, but by the mid-point of the first reach, at least five boats were in a perfect parallel line. I was on the inside for most of the leg and was able to watch various boats inch back and forth from the lead. At the rounding of the leeward mark of the w/l segment, Carl was able to round on the inside of the mass of boats from various fleets, obtain clear air, and wind from the left side of the course to jump from the back of the fleet to win the race followed by Dave and Pete.
Race 2 - Dave and Pete were right on the line moving fast at the start. This allowed them to obtain clear air and set themselves up to be in phase with the wind and at the right place to receive the brief puffs. Pete and Dave pulled hundreds of yards away from me and finished 1-2.
Bill and Matt fought things out in the silver fleet finishing 1-2 and 2-1 in the two races. After the races, the real fun of the day began with BVI returnee Bill Landis serving "Pain Killers" with Pusser's Rum.
